Five Tips in Making Research Paper

Having difficulties when dealing with research paper? Maybe true to those who have less writing experience, but this should not be a hindrance to those who want to learn. This also implies that the materials used must be effective to attract readers.  It made simple, how?

Research paper writing can be made easy in five tips:

First, choose or find a topic. It must not be narrow or too broad to avoid the readers from confusion about the main topic of the research paper.  A thesis statement can guide the main idea of the research.  It either proves or describes the direction of the content.

Second, the topic research. Read and understand resources to be used in the research paper. Evaluate the sources and analyze answers to research questions.

Third, take notes. Analyze all reading materials and jot down important remarks from time to time. Researcher should avoid plagiarism, try to rewrite, paraphrase or recall ideas from the reading materials.

Fourth, make a draft. It gives structure in what to say and needed to be said. Drafting is the most time consuming part in writing a research paper. In fact, it is very useful in chronological arrangement of ideas.

Finally, the revision or proofreading of content is the most crucial step. It is examining the correct citation and consistency of each sentence in paragraph. The specified format of the research paper must be followed like double spacing, pages, footnotes or end-notes. The correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling should also be observed.

How to Correct Grammar in Your Writing

Many people find the editing phase of writing to be the most difficult and perhaps it should be. It’s the most the most critical point of creative writing. It’s far more difficult for even the most talented writer to find a way to correct grammar in your writing for a first draft!

After finishing the first draft, it’s usually best to take a short break and step away from the project for a little while to gain perspective. When you come back, take the time to read what you’ve written aloud to see how it sounds. Many times, when you read aloud, you can catch things that do not sound correct. You’ll catch some of your grammatical mistakes during this phase.

Some of the more difficult things to catch are going to be caught by extensive study of the English language or by grammar correcting software. This isn’t something to be ashamed of using in the least. I know for a fact even grammar teachers use the grammar tools within word processing applications. The funny thing is I knew one that even used this grammar correcting software to grade papers!

Not only is it helpful to use a software to correct grammar in your writing, it’s helpful to learn the correct grammar. If the software finds something, take the time to find out “why” the grammar is incorrect unless it’s just blatant. Then, smack yourself for missing it during the “reading aloud” portion of your editing. Did you know there was even software available that can help you correct your grammar while writing status updates on Facebook, forum posts, and even while writing articles?

One of the other big things that people tend to miss by not using a grammar correcting software is spelling mistakes. Believe it or not, spelling mistakes stand out like a sore thumb to many readers and can essentially negate any good information that you’ve provided. Many readers will relate spelling and grammar mistakes to the education and ability of the writer. So, be careful. Use that spell check! Don’t have a good spell checker? I’ll tell you about a free one at the end of this article.

I hope that you’ve found this article useful in your yearning for more knowledge for correct grammar and spelling in your writing endeavors. I wish I could cover so much more in this article like the correct use of “your” and “you’re”, but there’s hardly enough room to cover many of these topics without an entire website dedicated strictly to grammar and spelling!

Short Story Writing Tips

We all love short stories, but the appeal of these works isn’t just their brevity – short stories are often the perfect genre for exploration, experimentation and the honing of your writing skills. Some of history’s most famous authors, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck, JD Salinger, published notable collections of their short fiction. Ernest Hemingway’s great works, including the Old Man and the Sea are considered long short stories (or novellas) and are an extension of this genre.

Short stories are brief and powerful in their succinctness. Good short stories have well developed characters, story lines and settings just like a full length novel. They’re often a great starting point for beginning writers enrolled in their first creative writing courses. And they’re fun to write!

There are some notable differences between developing a novel and a short story. Here are some tips to keep in mind for short story writing:

Don’t skimp on the basics – you need a beginning, middle and end as well as strongly developed characters, a setting – everything you would include in a novel. You may find yourself streamlining some of your concepts but all of the essential parts need to be there.

Stick to a single simple idea – because your story is brief, you’ll want to follow a single idea or theme to its completion. Including too many twists and turns could confuse your reader – save these for longer works.

Stay with fewer characters – each new character adds more depth and complexity to your story. By focusing and honing in on just a few key subjects, you’ll be able to develop them more thoroughly in your short story.

Stick to a short time frame – a successful short story covers a short time frame thoroughly and in fine detail – you don’t want to be giving a brief overview of a character’s entire life. Paint a short story as you would a single scene from a screenplay – be as descriptive and as detailed as you can be about a brief passing of time.

Brainstorm and develop your story – you as the writer should know everything about your characters, from what they eat for breakfast to how they sleep at night. While these details may be left out of your final work, the brainstorming process should be thorough and complete.

Be creative and explorative – short stories are the perfect way to develop your writing skills and experiment. Try a new voice or explore a different genre and style of writing. Many short stories continue to develop into full fledged manuscripts and ideas.

There you have it, some easy to work with short story writing tips. Now go and get creative by writing an inspiring story! If you need more tips, why not check out some other short story articles.
